Jamaica Hospital Medical Center Revamps Ambulatory Surgery Unit
|When deciding a place to have an ambulatory surgery procedure, one of the most important things to consider is the clinical environment. Many Ambulatory Surgery Units do not place enough importance on the overall patient experience, but Jamaica Hospital Medical Center has totally reimagined their ASU with an emphasis on meeting every patient need.
Recent improvements have been made to the external appearance, spacing and ambiance of Jamaica Hospital's Ambulatory Surgery Unit to enhance each patient's experience. Visual improvements such as rainbow walls with cathartic colors and light diffusers with serene images have been added to soothe the anxiety of patient experience. Patients coming to the ASU for endoscopic procedures will now be admitted in a stretcher chair. This chair provides a convenient and seamless transition from pre to post-operation. These stretcher chairs allow patients the flexibility to remain seated on their way to the operating room and transitions to a stretcher during the operation.
"We want you to feel like Jamaica ASU is a part of your family". The nurse manager, Cheryl Gallotta-Dimassi is available to assist you, and welcomes you to seek her out.
The Ambulatory Surgery Unit at Jamaica Hospital provides patients with excellent primary and specialty care. Upon patient arrival with family and loved ones there are Spanish-speaking volunteers available at registration for translation needs. The unit floor is designated as the quiet zone for patient comfort and privacy. On the main floor of the hospital, patient visitors are welcome to wait there. Visual improvements such as rainbow walls with cathartic colors and light diffusers with serene images have been added to soothe the anxiety of patient visits. Massage therapy is also one of the unit's newest features. There is also a separate pediatric area with a television, child-friendly movies and coloring books. Children are given the option to ride a tricycle into the operating area.
The ASU at Jamaica Hospital made enhancements to continue providing quality care to the community and relieve stress from an otherwise stressful experience. The Ambulatory Surgery Unit is located on the first floor of the hospital. The Center is open Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. For more information, please call 718-206-6020.
