Nurses Week was established by the American Nurses Association as a time to recognize the important roles nurses play in healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>Jamaica Hospital hosted a week-long series of events to honor nurses, which included: an ice cream social, grand rounds, lunch and formal dinner, as well as a staff appreciation day and awards ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Flushing Hospital participated in various activities that shed light on the many ways nurses work to save lives and improve the health of millions. Events included a luncheon attended by Council Member Peter Koo, who presented a Citation of Appreciation from the New York City Council.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2562\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/?attachment_id=2562\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2562\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2562\" class=\"wp-image-2562 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/FHMC-Nursesweek2016-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"FHMC Nursesweek2016\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/FHMC-Nursesweek2016-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/FHMC-Nursesweek2016-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/FHMC-Nursesweek2016.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2562\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On behalf of Flushing Hospital nurses Maria Smilios, Dir. of Nursing accepted a Citation of Appreciation from Council Member Peter Koo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Recognition of our nurses\u2019 work was not limited to Flushing and Jamaica Hospital. The Queens Courier published an article featuring nurses Maria Smilios and Beth Palmas. \u00a0In the article \u2018A Labor of Love for Queens Nurses\u2019 Smilios from Flushing Hospital spoke about her passion for helping others and positively contributing to the lives of patients. Palmas a nurse at Jamaica Hospital also shared that she sees her job as an opportunity to be a role model and to maintain wellness.
