{"id":3901,"date":"2018-08-21T16:44:13","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T16:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/?p=3901"},"modified":"2018-08-21T17:25:54","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T17:25:54","slug":"fhmc-receives-baby-friendly-designation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/fhmc-receives-baby-friendly-designation\/","title":{"rendered":"FHMC Receives Baby Friendly Designation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb_share_1\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a name=\"fb_share\" type=\"box_count\" share_url=\"https:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/fhmc-receives-baby-friendly-designation\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sharer.php\">Share<\/a><\/div><div><script src=\"http:\/\/static.ak.fbcdn.net\/connect.php\/js\/FB.Share\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/div><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3909 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/world-breastfeeding-week-fhmc-2018.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"353\" height=\"267\" \/>On August 7<sup style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">th<\/sup>, 2018, Flushing Hospital Medical Center hosted a breastfeeding informational table in its lobby in observation of World Breast Feeding Week and to celebrate receiving official designation as a Baby-Friendly USA\u00ae Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by many hospital staff members, administrators, visitors and special guest, Congresswoman Grace Meng.\u00a0 The Congresswoman presented a Certificate of Recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives and the NYC Council on behalf of Council Member Peter Koo to honor the hospital&#8217;s achievement.<\/p>\n<p>To receive Baby-Friendly\u00ae status, institutions must successfully implement the \u201cTen Steps to Successful Breastfeeding\u201d which include providing appropriate education to enable families to make informed decisions about infant feeding, encouraging mothers to hold their babies skin-to-skin immediately following birth, and offering expert lactation support throughout and beyond the hospital stay. Baby-Friendly\u00ae\u00a0practices are designed to optimize mother-baby bonding and to protect, promote and support breastfeeding in the first few days of a new baby\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>Flushing Hospital has successfully fulfilled the requirements for Baby-Friendly\u00ae designation by implementing several breastfeeding initiatives within the hospital and in the communities it serves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe serve a diverse population of patients at Flushing Hospital with\u00a0representation\u00a0of many different ethnicities and cultures. We are proud to provide breastfeeding education in several languages at public libraries and offer classes and support groups at our facility, free of charge,\u201d stated\u00a0 Maria D.
