{"id":4806,"date":"2019-11-15T18:47:10","date_gmt":"2019-11-15T18:47:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/?p=4806"},"modified":"2019-11-15T18:56:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-15T18:56:44","slug":"jamaica-hospitals-er-earns-clinical-ultrasound-accreditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/jamaica-hospitals-er-earns-clinical-ultrasound-accreditation\/","title":{"rendered":"Jamaica Hospital&#8217;s ER Earns Clinical Ultrasound Accreditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb_share_1\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 10px;\"><a name=\"fb_share\" type=\"box_count\" share_url=\"https:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/jamaica-hospitals-er-earns-clinical-ultrasound-accreditation\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sharer.php\">Share<\/a><\/div><div><script src=\"http:\/\/static.ak.fbcdn.net\/connect.php\/js\/FB.Share\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/div><p>Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is proud to announce that its Emergency Department recently received Clinical Ultrasound Accreditation by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-4807\" src=\"http:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/ERultrasoundworkshop1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"284\" height=\"374\" \/>Clinical ultrasound is the real-time performance and interpretation of ultrasound by a physician at the bedside to diagnose, monitor, and treat medical conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Jamaica Hospital\u2019s emergency department physicians are now trained to utilize ultrasound to guide them during complex procedures and help them expedite the correct diagnosis for many life-threatening conditions such as abdominal aneurysms, ectopic pregnancies, and internal bleeding. This diagnosis can be made within minutes, ultimately resulting in faster treatment and better patient outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Accreditation by the American College of Physicians indicates that Jamaica Hospital\u2019s Emergency Ultrasound Program meets the high standards set forth by ACEP in the <em>Ultrasound Guidelines: Emergency, Point-of-Care and Clinical Ultrasound Guidelines in Medicine<\/em>. \u00a0The hospital\u2019s program has met ACEP standards in all areas including administration, performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations, and patient confidentiality and privacy<\/p>\n<p>In addition, accreditation required the hospital\u2019s emergency physicians to be credentialed in emergency ultrasound \u2013 a process that requires extensive training and continuing education. There are currently 11 emergency physicians who meet these requirements. They are:<\/p>\n<p>Celine Thum, MD<br \/>\nMorgan Chen, MD<br \/>\nAbujeet Kaur, MD<br \/>\nSusan Philipose, MD<br \/>\nShi-Wen Lee, DO<br \/>\nMelvin Ku, MD<br \/>\nWing Tom, MD<br \/>\nLauryn Ksoturko, MD<br \/>\nIain Jeffrey, MD<br \/>\nAnthony Almeida, MD<br \/>\nAustin Choi, MD<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4808 \" src=\"http:\/\/medisyshealth.org\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/EmergencyUSSeal-300x247.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"345\" height=\"286\" \/>Jamaica Hospital was one of only a handful of hospitals in New York State, and the only one in Queens to obtain ACEP\u2019s Clinical Ultrasound Accreditation.\u00a0 This designation is a testament to the continued high quality of care provided by Jamaica Hospital\u2019s Emergency Department. \u00a0According to Celine Thum, MD, FAAEM, Director of Emergency Ultrasound, \u201cPoint-of-care ultrasound is an integral part of how emergency care is delivered at Jamaica Hospital and has already had a positive impact on our patients.
