Queens Welcomes Home the MediSys Health Network Volunteers from Their Hurricane Maria Relief Missio

November 3, 2017 (Jamaica, NY) ‰ÛÒ The MediSys Health Network is proud to announce that after completing a two-week medical relief mission to Puerto Rico, its team of 20 volunteers from Jamaica and Flushing Hospital Medical Center will return to New York City. Both facilities are the first Queens-based hospitals to send their staff to the island. The mission was a part of a collaboration that included the support and coordination of the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), the Hospital Association of New York (HANYS) and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

The 20-member team of largely bi-lingual employees which included physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, emergency medical technicians and administrators, deployed to Puerto Rico on October 24th and is scheduled to return to New York on Wednesday, November eighth.

To mark the momentous occasion, the MediSys Health Network and Queens Borough President Melinda Katz will host a special event on November 10th to welcome home and honor this remarkable group of individuals who volunteered their expertise to help people on the island devastated by Maria‰Ûªs destruction. As reported, much of Puerto Rico‰Ûªs infrastructure was decimated and most of the island‰Ûªs healthcare facilities were compromised.

While in Puerto Rico, the MediSys team delivered urgent medical care in challenging situations by supplementing staffing for the ongoing Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) missions and providing assistance to Federal Medical Shelters (FMS), as well as the United States Naval Ship (USNS) Comfort. The team administered medical assistance to hundreds of people each day in cities such as San Juan and Manati. They also set up pop-up clinics and provided door-to-door medical service to residents living in the outskirts of Aguada.
