On Saturday, November 5^th, the MediSys Health Network celebrated its first annual gala, the first fundraising dinner dance held since the beginning of the pandemic.

The evening was a huge success. Approximately 1,400 guests filled the Midtown Hilton and enjoyed an evening that featured the honoring of two very special men, President and CEO Bruce J. Flanz and Executive Vice President and CFO, Mounir F. Doss for an astounding 100 years of combined service to the network.

During the program, the honorees were surprised with a thank you video featuring many leaders in the healthcare industry and local elected officials, as well as members of the MediSys Board of Trustees and Administration. All those on the video congratulated both men on their many years of service and their efforts in leading the Network to its status as a network that delivers the highest quality care to its patients.

Mr. Flanz and Mr. Doss were also surprised with custom oil paintings entitled “Not all Family Lives Under the Same Roof.” The paintings centered around the Liden Tree, also known as the Tree of Love.  On the left side of the tree, the names of each men’s family members names were inscribed on the heart-shaped leaves. On the right side, the leaves were adorned with the logos of each of the various MediSys Health Network entities. The depiction tied together both men’s love of family and career.

The other exciting element of the evening was our beneficiary. This year, all the proceeds from the gala will go towards the development of a comprehensive cancer program on the MediSys campus to benefit the people of Queens. This program, created in partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, will provide members of our community the opportunity to receive world-class cancer care without having to leave the borough.

Overall, the evening exceeded all expectations for this very worthy cause. Thank you to all who participated.

On Tuesday evening October 11^th, the non-profit children’s charity, Angels On The Bay held its 28^th annual fundraising gala dinner at Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach. This event serves to raise money for chronically ill and disabled children.

At this year’s gala fundraiser, Flushing Hospital Medical Center was the recipient of a check in the amount of $20,562. This is the second of a three-year grant of $61,686. The funds will be used to replace three infant warmers with updated equipment to ensure that babies will be kept warm while being assessed for breathing difficulties. The devices are also equipped with built-in scales to assist in heat loss prevention while babies are being weighed.

The advantage of having these new warmers on the unit is versatility as they can be used not only in the newborn nursery but in any of the eight labor rooms or in the two operating rooms for cesarean births.

The MediSys Health Network deployed a team of six healthcare professionals to Florida on Sunday, October 16th, to provide medical assistance to communities impacted by Hurricane Ian —which caused catastrophic damage to the southwest coast of the state.

To support relief and recovery efforts, the MediSys Health Network will serve as part of a hurricane emergency response team coordinated by the International Medical Corps (IMC).

International Medical Corps (IMC) is an organization dedicated to delivering emergency medical and related services to those affected by conflict, disaster, and disease, no matter where they are, no matter what the conditions.

In the Spring of 2020, IMC sent a team of 33 healthcare workers to Jamaica Hospital and Flushing Hospital to provide much-needed assistance, as both Queens-based hospitals were inundated with critically ill patients during the height of the COVID pandemic.  According to MediSys Health Network, President and CEO Bruce J. Flanz “Our hospitals were at the epicenter of the pandemic and our brave healthcare heroes needed help. IMC provided that relief and we remain extremely grateful to them for it. Now is our time to give back and help those in need.”
